Cast Bios - Eclipsed


Dianne Yvette (HELENA) is thrilled to be returning to the Unicorn stage, having previously appeared as the title role in By The Way, Meet Vera Stark, and in Good People (a co-production with the Kansas City Actors Theatre). Most recently, you may have seen Dianne in the Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s production of A Christmas Carol (as a Ghost of Christmas Past). She has had the pleasure of working with several local theatres including: The Coterie (The Nine Who Dared, The Miracle Worker, Freedom Sisters), Westport Center for the Arts (Goat Song), The Fishtank (The Penis Monologues), The Living Room (Eurydice), and Kansas City Actors Theatre (Hamlet). Originally from Lawrence, KS, Dianne is a graduate from the University of Kansas Theatre and Film Department. She would like to thank her friends for their unshakeable support and encouragement, and Cynthia Levin for the opportunity to explore this amazing script. This one’s for you, De’Borah!


Teisha M. Bankston (THE GIRL) is delighted to be back at the Unicorn following An Octoroon, And Her Hair Went With Her, and A House With No Walls. Other credits: A Star Ain’t Nothin’ But a Hole in Heaven, Children of the Damned Corn, Freedom Sisters (The Coterie); Africa’s Daughters (TYA); Jitney (u/s), I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady From Rwanda (u/s) (KC Rep). Teisha is featured in the documentary film Barbara Johns: The Making of an Icon, the host of SciTech Now (KCPT), and performed with Neil Young in his Kansas City Tour (Starlight) with choreography by Russ Tamblyn.


Ashley Kennedy (BESSIE) is thrilled to be making her debut at the Unicorn Theatre. As a recent graduate of the University of Kansas, it is an honor to display what she has learned in such a creative space. Her previous credits include: A Doll’s House, Intimate Apparel, and A Raisin in the Sun. Ashley would like to thank her family for their undying support, Cynthia Levin for extending this wonderful opportunity, and Dr. Nicole Hodges-Persley for her guidance, ferocity and inspiration. She is truly grateful. 

 


Njeri Mungai (MAIMA) hails from Gilgil, Kenya. She moved to the US in 2013 and has resided in Kansas City for four years now. She is currently pursuing a BA in Theatre Performance at the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC). Njeri has previously been featured in several UMKC undergraduate productions, including The Comedy of Errors, Medea and The Playwright Project. This is Njeri’s professional debut in theatre and she is grateful to the playwright, Danai Gurira, for such an empowering and unique story as well as the Unicorn Theatre for providing a platform for the story to be told.


Amber A. McKinnon (RITA) is delighted to be returning to the Unicorn Theatre for Eclipsed. Recent theatre credits include An Octoroon, The African Company Presents Richard III and Amadeus. Amber holds a BFA in Drama from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She also trained at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the Stonestreet Screen Acting Studios in New York City. As a commercial actor and print model, Amber has appeared in numerous ads for brands such as Sprint, Valley View Bank and Ernst & Young.
