The Underneath
by Susan
Soon He Stanton
Directed by Ron Megee
Featuring Keenan Manuel Ramos, Andi Meyer,
Vi Tran, Nancy Marcy and Ron Simonian
An enigmatic S.O.S from his
estranged brother Jem brings Col back home to Hawaii, only
to find that Jem is missing... and in mortal danger. In the
shadows of downtown Honolulu, against a seedy landscape they
don’t show on postcards, Col tries to make sense of his
brother’s disappearance. He gathers clues from a beautiful
stranger living in his mother’s house, a homeless man who
knows too much, and the fading memories of his own guilty
conscience. But with every discovery, the truth seems
farther away. The Underneath is all at once a modern
thriller, a poetic new take on film noir, and the mystery of
a man who goes to paradise--but winds up in Hell.
No
tickets or reservations required. Seating on a first come,
first served basis. A donation is requested at the door.
Susan Soon
He Stanton’s plays have been produced or developed by The

and best screenplay award from the Sloan Foundation for her
full-length screenplay, Rosalind’s Helix, and a
commission from Red Sky Films. In 2003, she became the

food-based musical with Australian composer Greta Gertler,
performed at Joe’s Pub in 2008. She is a regular

Often
entertainment is out of reach for people who are
hearing impaired. The challenges of communication
can create exclusion and the inability to
participate in the Arts. Starting this season, the
Unicorn has integrated the language of the spoken
word with the visual language of sign into a
theatrical experience for everyone.
