The
Benefits of Coming as a Group of 10 or more
*
Savings: Groups of 10 or more save up to 20% off
regular ticket prices.
*
Flexibility:
Groups do not have to pay for their
tickets until the number of tickets is finalized six weeks
before the performance. Many of our group leaders estimate
the number of tickets needed and continue to adjust their
reservation until six weeks before their performance.
Adjustments may be made subject to availability without
penalty or fee. A deposit of $5 per ticket (never to exceed
$200) guarantees your group the number of tickets requested
on the night of your performance. This deposit will be
deducted from your final amount due.
*
Extras:
Talk-Backs
and/or Meet and Greet sessions with cast and crew can be
arranged for groups attending a performance.
*
Reception Space:
Many groups choose to enhance their theater experience by
planning a reception. Groups of 50 or more may use a lobby
space at the Unicorn at no charge. Smaller groups can
reserve a space for a nominal fee.
*
Student Rate: Student groups can attend
regular performances, based on availability, at a
discounted price of $10 per person.
* Special Handling: Any
question you need answered, any detail you need covered,
simply call us and we will be happy to help. Our Group Sales
office is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call

[title of show]
Book by Hunter Bell
Music and Lyrics by Jeff Bowen
September 18-October 10, 2010
Previews September 15, 16 & 17
Imagine two hyper-talented young songwriters in New York
trying to write a new musical about two hyper-talented young
songwriters in New York trying to write a new musical?!
That’s [title
of show], the deliciously smart and tuneful
musical that wowed Broadway audiences and critics last fall.
It’s a dizzy, unpredictable, and uproarious tongue-in-cheek
musical about show business and making one’s dreams come
true. Follow Jeff, Hunter, Heidi and Susan as they negotiate
a musical theatre obstacle course of finding backers,
casting singers and making it to Broadway. Fresh, funny and
playful, [title
of show] is a Cinderella tale set to music about
the journey from the unemployment line to the Great White
Way.
DISTRACTED
By Lisa Loomer
November 27-December 12, 2010
Previews November 24 & 26
Co-Produced
with UMKC Theatre
Are we so tuned in to our info-rich, 24-7 world that we’ve
tuned out the things that really matter?
Jesse is eight and easily distracted, but so are his mother,
father, neighbors and even the doctors. When
Jesse is diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder,
the question becomes what to do about it? Is it caused by
over stimulation, bad parenting, too many chemicals in the
food, or is he just a kid in an ADD world? In their
fractured, fast paced, overly wired lives the consequence is
almost inevitable.
Distracted
is a fast-paced and comic look at parenting in the age of
the Internet and Ritalin.
RUINED
By Lynn Nottage
April 16-May 1, 2011
Previews April 13, 14 & 15
Co-Produced
with UMKC Theatre
Entertainment and escape await guests at Mama Nadi’s
rain forest bar and brothel in civil-war-torn Congo.
But is she protecting or profiting from the women she
shelters, and how far will she go to survive?
Inspired by interviews she conducted in Africa with Congo
refugees, Nottage has crafted an engrossing and uncommonly
human story with humor and song served alongside its
postcolonial and feminist politics. Winner of the 2009
Pulitzer Prize in Drama.
PLUS A Season Extra
A
VERY JOAN CRAWFORD CHRISTMAS
DIRECTED BY JEFF CHURCH
STARRING RON MEGEE
December 11-26, 2010
Previews December 8, 9 & 10
Imagine a setting where you can settle
in with Joan Crawford, along with her loyal housekeeper,
Mamacita, and several Hollywood friends and enemies. Give
Joan the respect she’s entitled to! Pepsi and vodka: you’ll
learn to love it. Be sure to visit the craft room to
decorate a wire hanger for the tree, and enter the contest.
But clean up that mess! Created by Jeff Church and Ron Megee
especially for Unicorn Theatre.
(A Very Joan Crawford Christmas
is not included in any season package. Subscribers
receive a discount on tickets to this this season extra.)
There are 3 more
shows to be announced for the 2010-2011 Season.
Here are some of
the titles we are considering
2 JEWS WALK INTO A
WAR
By Seth
Rozin
Wonderfully funny and amazingly poignant. In a dilapidated
old synagogue in Kabul during the final days of the Taliban
regime, the one thing that binds Ishaq and Zeblyan together
- they hate each other’s guts. Ishaq and Zeblyan are the
last two surviving Jews in all of Afghanistan. Inspired by a
true story, they are, in fact a real life middle-eastern odd
couple. Could it be that the salvation of Afghanistan’s
Jewish community is left in the hands of these two
mushuganas? This play was read in our In-Progress New Play
Reading Series.
PASSING STRANGE*
Book and
Lyrics by Stew, Music by Stew and Heidi Rodewald
From
singer-songwriter and performance artist Stew comes
Passing Strange, a daring musical that takes you on a
journey across boundaries of place, identity and theatrical
convention. Stew brings us the story of a young bohemian
who charts a course for "the real" through sex, drugs and
rock 'n' roll. Loaded with soulful lyrics and overflowing
with passion, the show takes us from black middle-class
America to Amsterdam, Berlin and beyond on a journey towards
personal and artistic authenticity.
THE SEAFARER
By Conor
McPherson
The
Seafarer
is a chilling new play about the sea, Ireland, and the power
of myth. It's Christmas Eve, and Sharky has returned to
Dublin to look after his irascible, aging brother who's
recently gone blind. Old drinking buddies Ivan and Nicky are
holed up at the house too, hoping to play some cards. But
with the arrival of a stranger from the distant past, the
stakes are raised even higher. Sharky may be playing for his
very soul.
NEXT FALL*
By Geoffrey Nauffts
Next Fall
takes a witty and provocative look at faith, commitment and
unconditional love. While the play's central story focuses
on the 5-year relationship between Adam and Luke, the play
goes beyond the typical love story. This timely and
compelling new American play forces us all to examine what
it means to "believe" and what it might cost us not to.
BECKY SHAW
By Gina
Gionfriddo
This
comedy of bad manners is a tangled tale of love, sex and
ethics among four men and women in their 30s. It’s as
engrossing as it is ferociously funny, like a big box of
fireworks fizzing and crackling across the stage from its
first moments to its last. The plot turns on the ghastly
ramifications of one colossally bad setup. How bad? Well,
the first date involves a visit to a police station. This
deftly plotted, scabrous and sharp-witted new play proves a
bracing antidote to dispiriting news.
IN THE NEXT ROOM: THE VIBRATOR
PLAY
By
Sarah Ruhl
Set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of
electricity and based on the bizarre historical fact that
doctors used vibrators to treat 'hysterical' women (and some
men), the play centers on a doctor and his wife and how his
new therapy affects their entire household. In a seemingly
perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and
scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an
extraordinary new device for treating “hysteria” in women
(and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the
doctor’s laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to
tend to their newborn daughter—and wonders exactly what is
going on in the next room. When a new “hysterical” patient
and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated
relationship into the doctor’s home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings
must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it
truly means to love someone.
